Transfer Securities
Donating appreciated stocks and bonds avoids federal capital gains taxes and provides a federal income tax deduction for the current market value of the gift. Similar state tax benefits are also provided in most of the country. If you want to learn more about how charitable gifts of stock can work for you, please email info@farandwise.org.
Make a Qualified Charitable Distribution From an IRA
If you are aged 70½ or older, you may be able to make tax-free charitable gifts up to $100,000 from your traditional and Roth IRA accounts. Donations of this type are called Qualified Charitable Distributions or QCDs, the savviest way to use your IRAs to maximize their charitable impact.
Normally, funds withdrawn from an IRA count toward your annual income; however, QCDs are an exception to this rule—funds go directly from your IRA to Far + Wise, thereby helping you avoid higher income taxes. QCDs can be used to meet the Required Minimum Distribution requirement and avoid penalties if you fail to withdraw the RMD.
For more information, email info@farandwise.org or contact your financial advisor.

Donor Privacy Policy
Far + Wise is committed to respecting the privacy of our donors.
Far + Wise considers a donor anyone who gives to the organization through a contribution of cash, securities, bequests or who gives an in-kind gift of non-cash goods or services, regardless of value.
Donor information includes contact information, donation and payment details, planned giving details, and any other personal information we may obtain through Far + Wise’s relationship with the donor. Without express permission from the donor, we will never provide nor sell donor information to a third party, unless the third party is working directly on behalf of Far + Wise.
Far + Wise collects and uses donor information to understand donors’ interests in our mission, to properly thank donors and steward gifts given, and to update them on Far + Wise plans and activities. Information may be shared with staff, Board members, volunteers (such as a member of a fundraising or other committee) and consultants only on a “need-to-know” basis.
Far + Wise may publish donor names in print or online, including in an annual listing of donors by total gift level in our Annual Report. Donors may opt out of such listing by informing Far + Wise of their wishes. All requests by donors for anonymity will be honored, except to the extent required by law.
The names of donors of memorial, honorarium or tribute gifts may be released to the honoree, next of kin, or appropriate member of the immediate family, unless otherwise specified by the donor. Gift amounts will not be released without the express consent of the donor. A list of those honored or memorialized will be published in print and/or online.
Far + Wise is authorized to accept anonymous gifts. The name of the donor and size of the gift may be withheld from the Board of Directors, if requested by the donor. When made known to Board members, they will respect the anonymity of any such gift.
Violations of this Donor Privacy Policy are considered serious, and may result in disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal for employees, agents, or contractors, or removal from the Board of Directors, or the separation of any volunteer from a committee or other representative role on behalf of Far + Wise. This policy extends beyond an individual’s service with the organization. Violations of this policy are to be reported promptly to the Executive Director and/or the Chairman of the Board of Directors.
